Over
7,000 airshow fans came out in 2003 for the first airshow at Andrews, NC in 32
years. Based upon the success of the 2003 event, the Cherokee County
Airport Commission along with David Schultz Airshows LLC are making plans to
bring southwestern North Carolina another great aviation event on 23 October
2004.
There is no better place than the Smoky Mountains and Cherokee County this time of year. With the leaves in full fall color to the wonderful weather of the season, the community as well as the performers now look forward to an airshow at the Andrews-Murphy Airport in late October.
Headlining the military portion
of the event will be the United States Army Special Operations Command Parachute
team, the Black Daggers. They will demonstrate the
capabilities of the Special Operations Command as they execute a HALO jump over
Andrews during the event. Also new for 2004 is the United States Air
Force's East Coast T-6A Texan II Demonstration Team. This will mark
the first time an Air Force demonstration has taken place at the Andrews-Murphy
Airport.
Also participating in the event will be the All American Firebirds Aerobatic
Team in their two Extra 300s. Skip Stewart will be performing
in his Pitts S2S, and Gary Rower in his PT-17
Stearman. We also expect to have numerous warbirds on display
including a P-51 Mustang, P-47 Thunderbolt, and PBY Catalina along with some exciting exhibits
from national aviation museums and manufacturer's, the United States Military, North Carolina Forestry Department, and
many others.
Numerous aircraft will be open to the public and the airshow will allow everyone
a great chance to talk with the pilots and performers. We anticipate
airplane and hot air balloon rides to take place during the 2004 event as well.
Admission is $5 for adults and kids under 12 are FREE! Gate open at 9am!
